How to - Cross rib cable

A Step-by-Step guide to the Crossed Rib Cable stitch used in my Twinning cable hats.

This is a beautiful cable stitch that is worked over a 2x2 rib background and is used in my Twinning hat pattern.  In this step-by-step guide I will be showing you the process of working the cable stitch and how to complete the pattern. At the end of this post I will write the whole stitch out in full so you can see it laid out.
Step 1: Start by working in 2x2 rib stitch until you want the cable design to begin.
2x2 rib stitch = RS Rows: [K2, p2] to end. //  WS Rows: [P2, k2] to end.

Step 2:  Working the cable; slip the 1st 4sts onto cable needle and hold to the back of the work.
Step 3: Knit 2 stitches from Left hand needle.

Step 4: Next slip the 2 purl stitches from the cable needle back to the left hand knitting needle.
Step 5: Purl these 2 stitches.

Step 6:  Knit the 2 remaining stitches from the cable needle.
Step 7: Then continue working the rest of the row.
(I have just worked 2 cables on a background of 2x2 to show this)

Row 1: [2-2-2 Right purl cross, p2, (k2, p2)x2] repeat to the end.

Step 8:  Work 7 rows straight in 2x2 rib, then repeat the Row 1 again.
Step 9: Work 3 rows straight and then work the 2nd 2-2-2 RPC Row.

Row 13: [(K2, p2)x2, 2-2-2 RPC, p2] repeat to the end.

Step 10:  Work 7 rows straight in 2x2 rib and then repeat Row 13.
Then work 3 more rounds of 2x2 rib to complete the stitch pattern repeat!!

2-2-2 Right purl cross - worked flat: (Pattern repeat: 16sts / 24 rows)
Row 1: *2-2-2 RPC, p2, [k2, p2]x2; rep from * to end.
Row 2: [P2, k2] to end.
Row 3: [K2, p2] to end.
Rows 4-7: Rep Rows 2-3, 2 more times.
Row 8: [P2, k2] to end.
Rnd 9: As Rnd 1.
Rows 10 & 12: [P2, k2] to end.
Row 11: [K2, p2] to end.

Rnd 13: *[K2, p2]x2, 2-2-2 RPC, p2; rep from * end.
